Glasgow Science Centre were tasked with creating a concept for an innovative and creative Hub facility at OGTC; we were brought on board to refurbish the lower ground floor level to make this a reality. The space features a variety of areas to facilitate both presentation, group working, and breakout scenarios for workshops.
Our involvement stemmed from inception to occupation and included the interior design of the space, which was paramount to the overall success of the project, ensuring the different areas were identifiable.
The infrastructure allows occupants to become involved and work collaboratively; showcasing their ideas and presenting problems to work towards solutions.
The Hub was opened by the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in October 2017.
The project also included external alterations with the installation of a goods carrying platform lift at the rear of the building, by A.Beattie Engineering, to allow large exhibits to be brought into the building.
Exposing and spray painting the metal deck of the floor above gave the space an industrial feel while the elements of exposed timber to the ceiling and wall panels added warmth. The ceiling void was then lit with LED strips to set different scenes depending on the activity happening within the space.
