Macallan Distillery Visitor Centre

Craigellachie

The Edrington Group who own Macallan Distillery had recently refurbished and restored one of their decommissioned Still Houses at the site in Craigellachie to bring it back into use and wished to form a visitor attraction as part of the refurbishment.

In conjunction with the exhibition designers, “Experience” based in London, a modest entrance foyer extension was designed to bring visitors into the building and provide an exhibition display space around the large copper Mash Tun.

The complexities of providing a public visitor tour through a working Still House which would comply with the current Building Regulations and Disability Discrimination Act, allowing disabled access into difficult areas took careful planning but was successfully achieved.

The internal and external materials were sympathetically selected to complement the existing materials found in both the buildings and equipment.
