New House

Kinellar

This bungalow was built on the site of a former 1 ¾ storey traditional farmhouse as a replacement dwelling in the Greenbelt. The existing house was in a poor and deteriorating condition and located in very close proximity to the existing farm buildings to the rear. The client wished to build a single storey home for his family within the curtilage of the site but create a clear separation between the house and agricultural sheds to provide a safer and more attractive environment for the new dwelling. It was important that the replacement house was integrated well into the countryside, particularly given the site’s rural location within the Greenbelt

The site commands excellent views of Blackburn as well as panoramic views of the hills and countryside beyond. To take advantage of this, the main Lounge was designed as a glass gable overlooking Blackburn, carefully avoiding the farm sheds, and the Kitchen / Family Room provided with a glazed corner for a more extended view around the rear garden.

Sympathetic Design

The design reflects and respects the character of the local area with traditionally proportioned gables and roof pitches, chimneys, materials such as slate roofs and off-white drydash walls.

Creating Contrast

Dark grey Alu-clad timber windows in a more contemporary dark grey colour were chosen to create a strong visual contrast to the light rendered walls.
